Spread the love (different channels, better results)
Are you too reliant on one channel to grow your personal brand? If so, you're missing out on tons of opportunity.
One, Two, Three Channels…How Many Are You On?
You’re only one person. How many social media channels, websites, email accounts, and other communication channels can you possibly manage, right?
Don’t worry, this issue’s advice is NOT going to be “Be everywhere.” In fact, as I like to say, if you try to be everywhere, you’re really going to be nowhere.
So, how do you know how many channels to be on? That’s what we’ll dig into throughout this issue.
What are the benefits of multiple channels?
How do you determine how many channels to be on?
How do you know which channels to target?
How can you more easily manage multiple channels?

Why be on multiple channels?
Your audience isn’t everywhere. BUT, they likely aren’t just in one place either.
When you spread your message (consistently) across multiple channels, you reach a bigger audience, and your legend grows more quickly. You get in front of more people within your target audience (recruiters, customers, partners, etc.) to grow more quickly.

How many is too many?
Six…(kidding!)
“Too many” can be defined multiple ways when it comes to how many social media channels you should be on.
How many can you consistently post on? Going overboard spreads you too thin. When you’re spread too thin, it’s impossible to have a quality presence on any channel.
Are you on channels where your audience exists? You don’t need to be on 50 channels. You just need to be on the ones where your audience is most active.
How do you know which to target?
Easy!
Is your audience super active there? Are they using that channel to seek info that might lead them to take action to work with you? If you answered yes, that channel should be on your list (if you have the bandwidth).
Once you know the right channels, figure out which ones offer the most value, then align the number you can handle out of those channels with the amount of time and resources you have available.
Do your audience love a good newsletter? Start one!
Is your audience more of the LinkedIn type? Be there!
Maybe they love reading a nice, long-form blog post? Create and publish often!
You get it, right? If not, drop me a line, and let’s talk.
Ok, but how do you manage all this?
Taking on more than one communication channel can be daunting. Managing a blog, building a social media presence, growing your email list and keeping subscribers happy, those things can be tough!
So, to help you manage all this chaos, here are some of my favorite resources.
Social Media Management - Publer - Easy to use, excellent analytics, solid interface, an all-around great platform (I use it daily)
Newsletters - Beehiiv - I switched my newsletter from Brevo to Beehiiv, and it’s been amazing, highly recommended.
Productivity - Google Drive - Excellent for creating content, sharing, saving, storing, and so much more.
Organization - Evernote - This tool keeps me organized, allows me to save key notes, and helps me stay on track
Websites - WordPress - For building amazing websites, easily - you don’t need to be a developer to create a beautiful site
Editorial and Project Management - Trello - Editorial boards, project management, visualizing what you’ve got going on, this is the tool
Creating Visuals - Edit.org - This is a great tool for creating images, templates, infographics, and other visuals to boost your content
These are just a few of my favorite tools. I’ll share more in future issues to help you continue to grow and thrive.
Stay tuned for next week’s issue #5. I’ll be writing about how to deal with a setback when someone challenges the authority of your personal brand.
