Is Your Online Presence Holding You Back?

If you want to grow in today's digital-first world, you need to understand people are checking you out online.

Why Is Your Online Presence So Important?

People are watching. They’re analyzing…YOU. Gone are the days of only being scrutinized in the office.

Here’s a secret that’s not really so secret.

I, and many hiring managers, will NOT even bring you in to interview if your online presence is a mess. Your online presence is your digital resume.

Trying to land that next job or earn that promotion? Your shoddy online presence may be holding you back.

Looking to gain authority as a creator? No one will respect you if your online presence looks like junk.

Would you hire this guy? Maybe you’d trust him if he was a creator focused on party tips, but for anything else…nope.

Ok, so maybe this one is a little extreme, but that’s not the point. The point is, if you aren’t painting the picture of a buttoned up, approachable, expert person within your niche, you’re missing out on opportunities.

So, how do you get it right?

  • Start by auditing your online presence

  • Remove anything negative

  • Take new, high-quality photos that represent who you truly are

  • Create messaging that stands out and doesn’t make people yawn

  • Build content that SHOWS you know your stuff (rather than just TELLING people)

  • Be active (helping people) on social media channels where your target audience is active

(Sneak peak [AKA “spoiler alert”] - Next week’s newsletter will focus on building a powerful presence on LinkedIn, so stay tuned!)

Be YOUnique and Stand Out

There are lots of clones out there. What will make you stand out the most online is simply being YOU.

What makes you different?

Do you have a unique approach to your work? Can you solve a problem no one else can solve? Are you simply a nicer person and people love being around you?

Whatever it is about you that makes you different from the crowd, highlight that thing or those things in your online presence. Show who you are (the real you). Get personal, and connect more deeply.
