Let them call you lucky
Building a business or anything worth building takes time, effort, and lots of hard work, but people love to call you lucky.
Everyone wants to get lucky. No one wants to do the work.
Have you ever been called “lucky”🍀 because you succeeded at growing your business, building a personal brand that commands respect, or winning in a way most people never experience?
If so, you’re not alone.
Everyone wants to become an overnight success story. Most people aren’t built for the journey behind the scenes.
So, how do you show the naysayers what “luck” truly looks like?
Tell your story online across multiple channels.
Build your personal brand on the foundation of the challenges you faced along the way.
Don’t just show the results. Describe the times you wanted to give up, the losses, and the way you battled through each one.
You were super lucky to lose sleep, face anxiety, and be on the verge of a breakdown. That was a ton of fun, right? 😫
Let the people calling you lucky know how wonderful all those things were to face.
Where do you highlight the steps of your journey?
Let them know. Show them the treacherous journey you took to get lucky.
I like to start with blogging and then take it from there. Build a website to highlight your services and what you offer, and add a blog to create posts to show your expertise and your journey.
Blogging
Create content about things like:
The challenges you faced along the way and how you beat them.
The knowledge and tips you learned along your journey with advice for how others can apply them.
Stories about your experiences, with personal anecdotes, to build deeper connections.
If you’re unsure where to start, here’s a resource I published.
Social Media
Once you create content, you’ll need somewhere to distribute it. Otherwise, even the best content has zero impact if no one sees it.
Determine the social media channels where your audience is most active. For me, that’s X and LinkedIn. It may be different for you, so research before you leap.
Post daily, and engage often.
Share your ideas. Build conversations. Grow your network. Attract followers.
Social media is an excellent medium to help your legend grow.
This newsletter is a great example of the power of email. With nearly 2500 subscribers to Elevate & Inspire and growing, I can drop advice and insights into your inbox multiple times each week.
Email is a great way to stay in touch, share advice, and tell your story. You have a captive audience to which you can generate 1-to-1 communication, so it’s a different medium than social media or your website.
Email can be highly personalized, so use this medium to connect more deeply with your audience.
Podcasts, Books, and More
Today, it seems like everyone has a podcast. Truthfully, the market is becoming a bit saturated. But if you have a creative idea and you approach production the right way, you can build an audience of people who tune in regularly to your show.
Writing a book is another great way to show your worth and tell your story. And if you don’t want to pay a publishing company, you can self-publish with resources like Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing or Barnes & Noble.
There are so many effective ways to tell your story and show just how “lucky” you got. Get started telling your story, and maybe people will stop calling you lucky and start following your lead.
